Parent Meetings: Bilingual Powerpoint to support implementation of the Gómez & Gómez 50/50 Dual Language Enrichment Model:
The following PP is designed to be a resource to inform parents for schools and districts implementing the Gómez & Gómez 50/50 Dual Language Enrichment Model. Depending on the length of the parent meeting, certain slides may be omitted. Overall, the PP focuses on the following three major points:
1. The importance of students learning in their first language so that they learn grade-level content & skills while "adding/developing" their second language through content and transferring these skills to their second language...thereby closing the English academic achievement gap as they continue in school (secondary)
2. The national and state level research and data that supports the statement that "long-term academic English achievement is largely based on the extent and quality of first language schooling"
3. The characteristics and benefits of dual language enrichment education and the key features of the Gómez & Gómez 50/50 Dual Language Enrichment Model

If you choose to use them, please print them on colored paper (red = Spanish / blue = English). These labels are to assist you and are not a complete list. You may label many other items in your classroom. The items labeled in your DL classroom should be reviewed with your students in the Language of the Day (MWF: Spanish // T-TH: English).

Language of the Day Signs to use with the Gómez & Gómez 50/50 Dual Language Enrichment Model:
The Language of the Day (LOD) signs (Spanish & English) should be used in the Gómez & Gómez 50/50 Dual Language Classrooms. The LOD sign should be posted on outside of classroom door announcing the LOD for visitors, school staff, and students. It is a good idea to assign one of your students as the "LOD Helper" for the week to announce the LOD and to flip the sign accordingly.
The following are LOD phrases were developed and donated by theFort Worth ISDas a resource for "monolingual' staff in supporting campus-wide implementation of the Language of the Day component in the Gómez & Gómez 50/50 Dual Language Model. The LOD not only develops student vocabulary in both languages, but also validates both languages across campus.
Use of Cognates to support implementation in the Gómez & Gómez 50/50 Dual Language Enrichment Model:
Cognates play an important role in a dual language enrichment education since a large majority of content-based vocabulary tend to be cognates. Students recognizing that cognates exist, aids in their "biliteracy development" across language and content vocabulary throughout the program. The following extensive list of cognates was developed and graciously donated by theDallas ISD as an instructional resource to support all dual language schools.
The Dallas ISD also shares a series of documents referred to as "Dual Language Weekly Focus" that are designed to provide opportunities for schools/districts to engage all staff in "deeper learning" of the key components of the Gómez & Gómez 50/50 DLE Model throughout the year. Please click links below:
The following is a current list of suggested resources, books, learning materials, and products supporting Dual Language Enrichment Classrooms. Although we do not “officially” endorse any one of these companies or individuals, we have reviewed their products and find them exceptional and in support of the Gómez & Gómez 50/50 DLE Model implementation.
